My Arabic teacher has a penchant for jokes and poetry. I try to translate them, but I had to modify lots because I cannot understand / remember precisely what was said. But you'll get the gist..
Here goes..
There was once a man who was very easily astonished.
He wakes up in the morning and was astonished to see the sun.
He goes out for a walk after the rain and was astonished to see the rainbow.
He meets up with his children and was astonished to see how they've grown.
He looks up at the sky and night and was astonished to see the glittering stars.
One morning, he woke up and found that he was no longer astonished.
And he was astonished.
Here's another version of it.
There was once a man who was very easily astonished
One day, his wife received a phonecall from the lottery authorities that he had won a huge sum of money in the lottery. His wife was worried that he would die of astonishment if she broke the news to him too suddenly. So she asked a friend of his to find him and tell him the good news gently.
The friend met the man at the streets. After some chit-chat, he asked,
"What would you do if you won $1,000 in the lottery?"
"Aha... I would buy myself some nice clothes, and go for an expensive meal."
"Ok, what would you do if you won $10,000?"
"Ahaha... I would take my wife for a long holiday overseas."
"Ok, what would you do if you won $100,000?"
"Ahahaha... I would buy a very big car, and move to a bigger house."
"Ok, what would you do if I told you that you won $1,000,000 in the lottery?"
"Ahahahaha...I would give it to you!"
And the friend died of astonishment.
And yes, they ARE funnier in Arabic xD
